Patients paid a visit to the Stokes Centre for Urology as part of the fourth annual Movember event.
It brought together 15 of our previous robotic prostatectomy patients, along with their family members.
Our chairman Martin Davies joined the event, and was very proud of how our charity’s ongoing support has been so instrumental in advancing the service. Most recently, we co-funded the Histolog® device, which will further enhance precision and decision-making during prostate cancer surgery.
Wissam Abou Chedid, Consultant Urological Surgeon, said: “The event offered a unique opportunity for our former patients – now strong ambassadors for prostate cancer awareness – to reconnect with our team, share their journeys, and even try the surgical robot themselves.
“Seeing patients step into the role of a surgeon for a day is always a powerful reminder of why we do what we do.
“At Royal Surrey, we continue to lead the way in robotic surgery for prostate cancer. As the highest-volume single-site robotic prostatectomy centre in the UK, we are on track to perform 620 robotic prostatectomies in 2025, with the shortest length of stay post-operatively and excellent functional and recovery outcomes.”
Royal Surrey innovations include:
- Over 400 day-case prostatectomies expected by year-end.
- More than 1,200 patients empowered to remove their own catheter safely at home.
- High-intensity theatre lists achieving up to 12 cases in a single day.
- A leading position in Europe for Retzius-sparing robotic prostatectomy.
Wissam added: “These events remind us that behind every operation is a family, a story, and a future we are trying to protect. Seeing our patients return healthy, happy, and confident is the greatest measure of success we could ask for.”
