To mark World Cancer Day on February 4th we hosted a special day offering free PSA blood tests at the iconic Guildford Cathedral, an event that we believe to be the largest of its type in Surrey.
More than 100 men were tested, and received their results within 48 hours, thanks to the team of phlebotomists and our friends at Medefer.
The comments we received in-person on the day, and via social media were universally positive, with many men saying that the found the process ‘extremely quick’ and the event ‘well organised’. There were also more than a few kind words for the goodies on offer at Season’s Café as well…but we can’t take much credit for the quality of the sausage rolls!
One of the youngest men tested on the day was Nik Hedman, Health Insurance Specialist at The Right Broker based in Epsom. Nik has a family history of prostate cancer and recognises the need to ‘Get Tested’.
‘I would encourage any man over the age of 50, or 45 if they have prostate cancer in the family to take the simple PSA blood test. Just ask your GP and do not take no for an answer, the test really is the best way to check for anomalies.’
Other attendees on the day included the High Sheriff of Surrey Mr. Peter Cluff, and the Dean of Guildford Cathedral, The Very Reverend Bob Cooper.

There was a sizeable number from the Connect Surrey Business Network, and we would like to thank Paul Bridgland for his generous support which helped us to publicise the event to his members at breakfast meetings across Surrey.
We are also grateful to Nicola and Owen from Guildford Cathedral for allowing us to ‘set up shop’ onsite, and to Carla and her team at Season’s Café for their wonderful hospitality.
(You can really help our friends at Guildford Cathedral by taking 2 minutes to complete this questionnaire about toilet facilities at the Cathedral.)
The day was a complete success and the numbers tested even surprised Mr. Man Van himself, stalwart PP trustee Mike Collins.
‘To be able to test so many men at a single location was remarkable, we are far more used to hosting testing at clubs, workplaces, sporting venues and golf days, so this was a bit of a departure. The success of the event means that we will definitely be doing something very similar in the near future. Guildford Cathedral looked after us brilliantly’.
