Dimitrios Moschanos, Director of Urology and Wissam Abou Chedid, Consultant Urological Surgeon welcomed a group of 15 patients and partners to the annual prostate cancer open day event at the Stokes Centre for Urology in Guildford.
Prostate Project Chairman Martin Davies, charity trustee Mike Collins, and Support Group stalwart Andrew Gabriel joined the tour of the centre, which took in dry labs and a demonstration of a robot simulator.
Some visitors even taking the opportunity to have a well-supervised at ‘driving’ the robot, the piece of equipment that has revolutionised cancer treatment at Royal Surrey, allowing for precision surgery, with many prostatectomies now treated as day cases.
Martin Davies was delighted by the attendance and was quick to thank the clinicians, and specialist prostate cancer nurses that added so much to the day.
‘Since opening in 2019, The Stokes Centre has helped to establish Surrey as one of the leading centres of excellence in the world for the research, diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer. The Prostate Project is proud of the part played by our supporters, having raised over £11 million since we formed as a charity just over 25 years ago.
The facilities that we have in Surrey have helped to attract world class physicians and researchers to Guildford. I would like to thank Mr. Moschanos, Mr. Abou Chedid and our specialist nurses Maria Innes and Helen Casson for giving their time so freely on our open day.’
