Prostate Project trustee Mike Collins was delighted to take the ‘Man Van’, the mobile PSA blood testing clinic to the offices of Knights Solicitors in Weybridge earlier this month.

The reason for the visit was to give the specially built and adapted vehicle a jolly good clean, inside and out, with Knights employees getting stuck in with mops, cloths and sponges as part of their 4 Our Community (4OC) initiative.

As Knights Partner Stephen Bottomley explains, 4OC, is a company-wide opportunity for staff to get involved with community programmes.

‘Knights offers all staff 4 hours paid leave per month to help charities and good causes of their choice. On this occasion we were delighted to welcome the Man Van, along with Mike and Katherine from the Prostate Project to our car park, the van is bigger than it looks but the team soon had it looking at its best’.

Mike Collins was delighted with the results, not just for the cleaning, which was greatly appreciated, but also for the opportunity to promote the work of the Prostate Project.

‘Events like this might look like a bit of fun, which they are, but as well as keeping the Man Van looking good, we also need to make as many people as possible aware of the need for men over the age of 50 to ‘Get Tested’.

This was a great opportunity to speak with a young team, and to ask them to speak with their dads, grandads, uncles and family friends about the importance of getting a simple PSA blood test. Early stage prostate cancer often has no symptoms, but with early diagnosis it is one of the most treatable and manageable forms of cancer there is.

Prostate cancer kills more than 12,000 men in the UK each year, and the stark fact is that many of these deaths are preventable with the early diagnosis that the PSA test can help to provide.

It was a great day, the Knights team were really enthusiastic, and reached parts of the van that needed a good wash, attracting quite a crowd of interested onlookers at the same time.’
