We’ll be there with our Man Van, raising awareness about prostate cancer and running free PSA blood tests. These are used to help detect prostate cancer and involve a simple finger prick test. Thanks to the generous support of Royal Surrey Charity, which is celebrating 30 years of supporting our hospitals, this event is not ticketed. If you’d like to go on one of our tours, you’ll be able to book in main reception on the day.
Who is the event for?
The open day is for anyone interested in health, care, or finding out more about Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust, including:
- everyone who uses our health services – that’s probably you!
- families looking for fun for the kids (free face painting, competitions, prizes and loads of interactive activities)
- anyone interested in NHS careers and working with us at Royal Surrey
- staff/representatives from other healthcare providers and community groups
What will I see?
The day will include a range of interactive activities for all ages:
- get a glimpse inside our operating theatres and surgical robots
- walk the laboratory with our histopathology team
- test your medical skills on our high tech dummy patients
- learn to save a life with our brilliant resuscitation team
- find out about different healthcare roles and career opportunities
- get a bird’s-eye view of our new surgical innovation centre as it’s being built
- take a tour of our new Cancer Centre and see the work of our radiotherapy team
- there will be food, live music and a chance to see inside a fire engine, police car and first responder unit

Histopathology Laboratory tours
What to expect: This amazing tour will give you access behind the scenes to our working histopathology laboratory. You’ll be shown a specimen’s journey from surgery to slide as one of our histopathology specialists shows you the integral part they play in diagnosis of diseases. Suitable for all over 8 years of age. This is a working laboratory and there will be clinical specimens visible. |

Radiology Department tours; X-rays and Ultrasound
What to expect: This exciting opportunity allows you to direct our diagnostic experts to perform an X-ray and ultrasound on our dummy patients. |

What to expect: Come and enjoy live music with our home grown choir — be inspried and see why singing is good for your health and wellbeing! |

Learn to save a life; Adult and 12+session
What to expect: Take part in the first of our CPR sessions. This one is for adults and older children wishing to learn CPR with an experienced resuscitation officer. |

Your future career in healthcare
What to expect: Come and learn about the opportunties at Royal Surrey with our brilliant experts who’ll be discussing everything NHS careers. You’ll have the opportunity to quiz them about their field, as well as life at Royal Surrey. There will be talks on medicine at 11.15am, nursing and midwifery at 12.15pm, health science roles at 1.15pm and allied health professional roles at 2.15pm. |

The event is based at Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford and the open day route will begin in the front entrance hall.
Visitors’ parking will be free for the duration of the open day – you do not need to buy a ticket. Please park in the visitors’ spaces.

It’s on from 11am until 3pm and will be packed with activities for everyone, whether you’re keen to see our Mobile PSA Testing Clinic (ManVan), surgical robots in our theatres, take a tour of our cutting edge histopathology lab or indulge in some free face painting, games and competitions – with lots of prizes!
On Saturday June 28, Royal Surrey Hospital in Guildford is holding its Community Open Day. It’s on from 11am until 3pm and will be packed with activities for everyone, whether you’re keen to see our Mobile PSA Testing Clinic (ManVan), surgical robots in our theatres, take a tour of our cutting edge histopathology lab or indulge in some free face painting, games and competitions – with lots of prizes!
Visitors can enjoy a range of experiences including theatre tours to see surgical robots in action, demonstrations of CPR and first aid training and access to free blood pressure tests. You’ll be able to learn new skills from our experts including:
- How to take an X-ray and watch an ultrasound investigation
- Audiology specialists will be giving visitors a go at shaping an ear mould and testing your balance
- The Trust’s community teams will be sharing their expertise and the fabulous services they deliver through the Frailty Academy and Admiral Nursing team
- Physios and other allied health professionals will be demonstrating their expertise and the multiple ways they support treatment and patient recovery
- Radiotherapy teams will be offering tours of the newly opened Cancer Centre.
Anyone interested in a healthcare-related future can access careers advice and find out what life is like working in the hospital.
They’ll be live music, family friendly food, competitions and prizes for younger visitors with a kids’ zone packed with fun and games. Local fire, ambulance and police services will also be there – so if you’ve always wanted to see inside the emergency vehicles, now’s your chance!
The Trust will also be hosting some of their partners and local health related community groups who’ll be there to share how they can offer support to you.
