We will be marking World Cancer Day with a very special event, with free PSA Blood Tests, used to help detect prostate cancer, being offered to men aged 50-70.

Prostate cancer is the most common form of cancer in men, with 1 in 8 UK males diagnosed in their lifetime, that’s one every 45 minutes. The early stages of prostate cancer are often symptomless, but caught early enough it is usually treatable, which is why we encourage men aged 50, or 45 if black or with a family history of the disease to take the simple PSA blood test.

This event is the latest high profile opportunity for us to promote awareness of prostate cancer and we will be offering free blood tests in Season’s Café at Guildford Cathedral between 11.00am and 3.00pm.

Spaces are limited, and booking is essential to avoid disappointment. You can book online using this link, (https://clientportal.uk.zandahealth.com/clientportal/online_booking) and our volunteers will be on hand to answer any questions that you, or your loved ones might have about prostate cancer, and the PSA test.

Ample free parking is available at Guildford Cathedral.

Guildford Cathedral is keen to develop Surrey’s first Prostate Friendly Toilet at the Cathedral Visitor Centre, and they would love to hear your feedback to help shape their plans. Please complete this short survey to let them know your views:

World Cancer Day offers a chance to learn more about the disease, share experiences and find support from clinicians and fellow patients. A cancer diagnosis can be devastating, but by raising awareness of the help that is available, together we can help everyone affected.

The ‘Man Van’, which will be on display all day, is a specially adapted vehicle purchased and kitted out by the Prostate Project following a fundraising drive which raised more than £200,000.

Working in association with our partners at Heim and Medefer, a quick blood sample will be taken and following the test, results will be sent by email and there will be expert clinical nurse follow-up for any cases where there may be a cause for concern.

So if you are a man aged 50- 70, or over the age of 45-70 if you are black, or have a family history of cancer, please join us on February 4th.

Tests are free on the day, with donations welcomed to cover the costs for the charity,

Everyone at the Prostate Project would like to take this opportunity to than the management team at Guildford Cathedral for offering this opportunity to help us to give men a better chance of beating prostate cancer.

The Prostate Project is a volunteer led charity, and you can find out more about our latest fundraising initiative to develop a vaccine which will prevent cancer from returning in men that have undergone a radical prostatectomy.
