SUMMARY:Rotawalk’24
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the RotaWalk’24\, organised by Rotary in Dorking which will take place on Sunday 28th April 2024\, on the National Trust land of Holmwood Common\, due south of Dorking. \nThis two-hour walk (four miles) follows the all-weather Circular Trail around Holmwood Common which is suitable for all ages and easily negotiated with push-chairs and mobility scooters. \nRotawalk’24 is an easy 4-mile walk with added interest en-route: there will be Display Boards with facts for you to read on the route with a Quiz Question at each one – some easy: some a little less so – to test all members of the family.   And a prize of course for the first correct answer drawn out of the hat. As April 28th will be just under one year on from King Charles’ Coronation\, there will be some Royal connections to pass\, as well as other interesting beauty spots \nHolmwood Common is just a couple of miles to the south of Dorking and there is free parking close to the start of the walk at Inholms Lane. \nYou can choose when you start the walk\, any time between 10:00am and 3:00pm. \nPerhaps you would like to walk as a family group\, or with friends? \nEveryone is welcome. \nYou may decide to make a donation on our JustGiving page here to help raise money for the Prostate Project … or you can simply make a donation on the day? \nAny funds you can spare would be much appreciated-everything raised goes directly to supporting our project. \nPlease let us know if you plan to attend\, by emailing us at: info@prostate-project.org.uk. \n\nStartpoint – this is our ‘base camp’\, on the Old Cricket Pitch at North Holmwood – grid reference TQ 169 468 – accessed from the National Trust Car Park on the corner of Inholms Lane\, or by walking along the path from St John’s Church. The closest satnav is RH5 4JH.  It will be well signposted.\nToilets will be located at the startpoint.\nTimings – you may start at any time after 10.00am when Check-in will open\, but we ask that no-one starts later than 3.00pm.\nGroups walking – you may walk as one big group for your chosen charity\, or in several smaller groups – totally up to you. All we ask is that the leader of each group should register before starting at the Check-in\, on behalf of all the walkers in that group\, and should equally Check-out at the end.  We want to be sure that none who start get lost along the way!  Ideally each group should have at least one mobile telephone with them in case of emergency.\nEmergency contact – all our helpers will be in ‘high’-viz’ yellow Rotary gilets\, with the Walk ‘supremo’ in a green one. Please seek him out in case of any serious issues\, or else just ask any helper and they will find an answer to your query.\nNotes to Walkers – at check-in\, each group leader will be given a sheet with key information for the day – an emergency contact number\, a rough map of the Common and the route\, showing the two checkpoints\, a list of the charities/organisations taking part for any individuals who have not yet chosen who they would like to support\, a list of our sponsors who have helped cover the overheads and keep the entry fees down.\nQuiz Sheets – each group will also be given a Quiz Form to record their answers to the Questions you will see on each Information Board you pass\, and there will be a box at Check-out to deposit these forms – with\, of course\, prizes to be won!!\nFirst-aiders – professional first-aiders will be stationed at the ‘base camp’\, available to attend as required anywhere on the route.\nRisk Assessment – we are covered by Rotary Insurance\, although everyone walks at their own risk and there must be one responsible adult to look after and take responsibility for each group walking. A Risk Assessment has been prepared and can be seen at ‘base camp’\, or in advance if desired.  Children under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.  Please do follow the signposted path: you leave that even more at your own risk!\nRefreshments will be available at the ‘Viewpoint’\, a natural pause area approx. one-third of the way round (our thanks to the Friends of Holmwood Common for this).\nThere will be a further checkpoint at the ‘Twin Ponds’\, the most southerly point of the Walk\, about half-way\, courtesy of the ‘Prostate Project’\, also offering refreshments.\nWe are not asking everyone to register in advance\, but it would help us to have a rough idea of how many in total may be walking with your party/for your charity – after all\, we don’t want to run out of cake!\n\nIncome and Costs \nRotary is not aiming to raise funds from this event – we are setting it up so that your charity or group can raise funds for your own use or a charity that you support. \n  \n

SUMMARY:West Surrey Golf Club Charity Golf Day
DESCRIPTION:Following the success of prior years Prostate Project charity golf tournaments\, this year’s event will be held at West Surrey Golf Club. We would like to thank Captains Terri de Peyrecave\, and Jeremy Sherwood\, for selecting us as their nominated charity for 2024. \nAs part of their generous support\, West Surrey Golf Club will be hosting our Annual Golf Day\, which this year will taking place on Friday 6th September\, and we are inviting individuals\, teams\, and club members to join us for what promises to be a fabulous day of golf\, and entertainment. \nWe are hoping to be joined by a number of celebrities\, including the one and only Steve Rider\, a voice and face well known and much-loved by sports fans around the world. Steve began his career in sports broadcasting in 1980\, anchoring programmes like Grandstand\, and the ITV World Cup coverage\, as well as countless sporting events\, twice winning the Royal Television Award for Sports Presenter of the Year. \n \nWest Surrey Golf Club is gloriously positioned close to Godalming\, designed by the legendary Herbert Fowler in 1910\, it really is a gem of a place\, ranked in the Top 100 courses in England by Golf Monthly. \nickets cost just £100 per person\, to include light breakfast\, teas and coffees\, two-course lunch\, and the opportunity to play one of the finest courses in the UK.  The course itself presents interesting challenges for golfers of all abilities\, and if you are interested in playing solo or organising a four-ball team (cost per team of four £400)\, then please let us know by emailing us at: info@prostate-project.org.uk \nWe thank the club for making the Prostate Project their Charity of theYear\, and for hosting their annual charity Golf Day\, which will take place on Friday\, September 6th.

SUMMARY:The Prostate Project ‘No Ball’
DESCRIPTION:What if we threw a party and nobody came? \nWell\, that’s exactly what we want to happen\, and we are calling it the Prostate Project ‘No Ball’. \nWe wanted to celebrate our 25th Anniversary and one suggestion was a charity ball.  But organising a charity ball takes time\, and it’s also a big risk with all the investment involved\, hiring a venue\, paying for food\, and booking a band. \nSo\, what we would like you to do is have a think about how much you would pay for a ‘big night out’\, the cost of the ticket\, the price of a new frock\, taxi fares\, and maybe paying for a babysitter. \nNow\, donate some or all of the combined cost to us\, we get a nice donation\, and you don’t have to go to all the trouble of getting yourself to our event…what could be cheekier\, we mean what could be simpler? \nPlease donate here: www.justgiving.com/campaign/prostate-project-no-ball  (it’s for you to decide what not attending a ball is worth to you) \n(and don’t forget\, an additional bonus\, this way there’s no chance of a hangover!)
