SUMMARY:The Prostate Project ‘No Ball’
DESCRIPTION:What if we threw a party and nobody came? \nWell\, that’s exactly what we want to happen\, and we are calling it the Prostate Project ‘No Ball’. \nWe wanted to celebrate our 25th Anniversary and one suggestion was a charity ball.  But organising a charity ball takes time\, and it’s also a big risk with all the investment involved\, hiring a venue\, paying for food\, and booking a band. \nSo\, what we would like you to do is have a think about how much you would pay for a ‘big night out’\, the cost of the ticket\, the price of a new frock\, taxi fares\, and maybe paying for a babysitter. \nNow\, donate some or all of the combined cost to us\, we get a nice donation\, and you don’t have to go to all the trouble of getting yourself to our event…what could be cheekier\, we mean what could be simpler? \nPlease donate here: www.justgiving.com/campaign/prostate-project-no-ball  (it’s for you to decide what not attending a ball is worth to you) \n(and don’t forget\, an additional bonus\, this way there’s no chance of a hangover!)

SUMMARY:Rotawalk’24
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the RotaWalk’24\, organised by Rotary in Dorking which will take place on Sunday 28th April 2024\, on the National Trust land of Holmwood Common\, due south of Dorking. \nThis two-hour walk (four miles) follows the all-weather Circular Trail around Holmwood Common which is suitable for all ages and easily negotiated with push-chairs and mobility scooters. \nRotawalk’24 is an easy 4-mile walk with added interest en-route: there will be Display Boards with facts for you to read on the route with a Quiz Question at each one – some easy: some a little less so – to test all members of the family.   And a prize of course for the first correct answer drawn out of the hat. As April 28th will be just under one year on from King Charles’ Coronation\, there will be some Royal connections to pass\, as well as other interesting beauty spots \nHolmwood Common is just a couple of miles to the south of Dorking and there is free parking close to the start of the walk at Inholms Lane. \nYou can choose when you start the walk\, any time between 10:00am and 3:00pm. \nPerhaps you would like to walk as a family group\, or with friends? \nEveryone is welcome. \nYou may decide to make a donation on our JustGiving page here to help raise money for the Prostate Project … or you can simply make a donation on the day? \nAny funds you can spare would be much appreciated-everything raised goes directly to supporting our project. \nPlease let us know if you plan to attend\, by emailing us at: info@prostate-project.org.uk. \n\nStartpoint – this is our ‘base camp’\, on the Old Cricket Pitch at North Holmwood – grid reference TQ 169 468 – accessed from the National Trust Car Park on the corner of Inholms Lane\, or by walking along the path from St John’s Church. The closest satnav is RH5 4JH.  It will be well signposted.\nToilets will be located at the startpoint.\nTimings – you may start at any time after 10.00am when Check-in will open\, but we ask that no-one starts later than 3.00pm.\nGroups walking – you may walk as one big group for your chosen charity\, or in several smaller groups – totally up to you. All we ask is that the leader of each group should register before starting at the Check-in\, on behalf of all the walkers in that group\, and should equally Check-out at the end.  We want to be sure that none who start get lost along the way!  Ideally each group should have at least one mobile telephone with them in case of emergency.\nEmergency contact – all our helpers will be in ‘high’-viz’ yellow Rotary gilets\, with the Walk ‘supremo’ in a green one. Please seek him out in case of any serious issues\, or else just ask any helper and they will find an answer to your query.\nNotes to Walkers – at check-in\, each group leader will be given a sheet with key information for the day – an emergency contact number\, a rough map of the Common and the route\, showing the two checkpoints\, a list of the charities/organisations taking part for any individuals who have not yet chosen who they would like to support\, a list of our sponsors who have helped cover the overheads and keep the entry fees down.\nQuiz Sheets – each group will also be given a Quiz Form to record their answers to the Questions you will see on each Information Board you pass\, and there will be a box at Check-out to deposit these forms – with\, of course\, prizes to be won!!\nFirst-aiders – professional first-aiders will be stationed at the ‘base camp’\, available to attend as required anywhere on the route.\nRisk Assessment – we are covered by Rotary Insurance\, although everyone walks at their own risk and there must be one responsible adult to look after and take responsibility for each group walking. A Risk Assessment has been prepared and can be seen at ‘base camp’\, or in advance if desired.  Children under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.  Please do follow the signposted path: you leave that even more at your own risk!\nRefreshments will be available at the ‘Viewpoint’\, a natural pause area approx. one-third of the way round (our thanks to the Friends of Holmwood Common for this).\nThere will be a further checkpoint at the ‘Twin Ponds’\, the most southerly point of the Walk\, about half-way\, courtesy of the ‘Prostate Project’\, also offering refreshments.\nWe are not asking everyone to register in advance\, but it would help us to have a rough idea of how many in total may be walking with your party/for your charity – after all\, we don’t want to run out of cake!\n\nIncome and Costs \nRotary is not aiming to raise funds from this event – we are setting it up so that your charity or group can raise funds for your own use or a charity that you support. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Noises Off Raffle
DESCRIPTION:One of the UK’s best-loved actresses and our Prostate Project Patron\, Felicity Kendal\, has kindly donated two tickets and a backstage tour on Saturday 4th March 2023 for her next play ‘Noises Off’ at the Phoenix Theatre in London. \nIf you’d like to win this amazing package\, please make a donation to our page. All funds raised go directly to supporting prostate cancer patients\, prostate cancer research\, and raising awareness of prostate cancer. \nEach donation will be an entry to our raffle for this amazing prize! \n  \n“Felicity Kendall stars in Michael Frayne’s hilarious farce\, Noises Off at the Phoenix Theatre from January 2023. This madcap classic is one of the most popular comedy plays of all time and promised side-splitting laughs for anyone wanting a good time on the West End. \nOne of the seminal examples of the ‘comedy about a play’ theme\, Noises Off follows a hapless touring theatre company as they try (and fail) to rehearse and perform their latest show. Each actor is even more mad than their character as their backstage antic and epic fumbles cause chaos backstage and risk running their show into the ground. \nFelicity Kendall stars as Dotty Otley and she is joined by Tracy-Ann Oberman as Belinda Blair with Matthew Kelly as Selsdon Mowbray. This new production is directed by Lyndsay Posner. \nDare to laugh and cringe in equal measure at the Phoenix Theatre as Noises Off takes you on a journey that is excruciating in the most hilarious possible way”.

SUMMARY:Rushmoor 'Odd Fellows' Male Voice Choir Summer Concert
DESCRIPTION:Singing For You – Summer Concert\nOdd Fellows Male Voice Choir are a group of men based in the Hampshire/Surrey area who love to sing. Founded in 1960 to sing in the Aldershot Music Festival\, approaches to local church choirs brought volunteers from many backgrounds with an odd one from here and an odd one from there\, so the name “Odd Fellows” was coined. \nThey aim to entertain our audiences\, to raise money for charity and to have fun doing it! \nThey have been privileged to be invited to sing at Festivals around the country and in Germany\, including 6 appearances at the Royal Albert Hall in the London Welsh Festival of Male Voices. \nIn their concerts\, they try to cater for all tastes with a repertoire ranging from classical to modern\, from anthems and spirituals to show tunes and popular songs. They provide our services to charities and help to raise around £10\,000 each year for local good causes and we are honoured that they have chosen the Prostate Project for as their charity for this concert.
